Gonna miss you like hell. It wasn’t always beautiful, or easy, but we had some wonderful times. Sure we had our ups and downs, but I never stopped loving you.
But the bubble has burst. The scene has ended. Reality has settled in. As fate would have it, it was a Mr. Death at the door, and he’d come about the reaping.
Like Redman said, “All good things come to end / Now I’m back on the block sellin’ weed again.”

I’m curious to see what happens to Oppo, but Jalopnik changing ownership is potentially a very good thing. We’ll see what the future is made of, but Univision has A LOT of money and Jalopnik certainly isn’t against being able to invest in proper camera gear, staff or allowing its best writers to spend more time investigating and writing quality articles rather than just “publishing content” and filling up the quota of article for the day...
I’m quite certain Gawker was responsible for the decline in interest I’ve felt toward Jalopnik during the past 1-2 years and I truly think this will change now that Gawker is out of the way.

I actually agree with you. But I’m also sad to see the Gawker vertical go. I keep up with Jalopnik so much, there are times when I’ve read every article that’s been posted. Used to kill time on Gawker in between Jalopnik posts.
I’ll miss that.

But it gave birth to Jalopnik and this wonderful user forum. Sure it was often shallow, and biased in the extreme. But, to be fair, we must give credit where credit is due.
Otherwise we’d all be stuck in some awful subreddit.

I didn’t much like Gawker or it’s commenters, however on the issue of them outing Peter Theil for attempting to cheat on his wife with a male prostitute, as well as the Hogan proving he’s a piece of shit with that sex tape issue, I firmly sided with Gawker.
Had the National Enquirier published those stories no one would have batted an eye, but the system is rigged.

Jalopnik/Patrick George feeds us. He’s almost fought to the death to keep Oppo up and running the last time Denton decided to purge the website. I’m not worried about Gawker.com going down.

That may be true, but the mutant freak that was Gawker gave birth to this place that you and I love so much, and I GUARANTEE you Oppo would never have come to be under any other roof. Hell, it was almost too crazy for Gawker! And that makes me worry about its future. If Gawker almost shuts you down, as liberal as they were, what will Univision do? One can only hope we’re such a tiny portion of their budget that they let us continue on, unnoticed by the bean counters.
